In rural Masaka, children younger than six years old are unable to attend school. This is because both public and private schools in that region are located quite a distance away, which means that children of that age are unable to go to school. On the other hand, this is not the main reason why children are skipping school. We are aware of other challenges that are preventing young children in this community from advancing.

The most significant factor that contributes to the community's struggles with issues such as illiteracy, poor hygiene, and malnutrition is poverty. Because most of the adults in that town make a living from agriculture and farming, they do not have any concept of how a child who is six years old or younger should attend school. There is an issue of mindset. This is how Well born child was born. We started classes in the community where parents can leave their children before they go to work in the farms. Volunteers at Well born child, spend time with children while teaching them how to read and write, play games, draw, plant trees, and learn other hand crafts.

Currently we have seven day care classes but the need is very high. There are four more classes of forty children each who need volunteers and education material to keep them open. Volunteers who opened them, need all the help they can get. At one point, they struggle a lot because they host these classrooms in their own houses. Taking care of forty children is a big challenge.
